Poetry Pottery Collection
The Poetry Pottery Collection was conceived in Italy when I was invited to
exhibit in Alessandria in 2003. Until this point, I did not have an appreciation
for still lives; nevertheless, being surrounded by so many different Italian
painters of this genre I was intrigued. I painted a couple of flower pots,
very similar to the one of the “Loteria Mexicana” Collection.
Then I was inspired by combining the beauty of fabric, flowers and poetry
to further express my work. This collection is in reality an excuse to use
all the elements of a still life as a statement or an opinion about literature,
art history, news or an experience of my daily life.
This collection also provides a unique opportunity for the viewer to be
engaged by the image and attain a deeper understanding of the work through
poetry.
Loteria Mexicana (Mexican bingo) Collection
The Loteria Mexicana Collection emerges from my memories as a child living
in Mexico. At the end of the day, when families are toghetter, before
diner, while grandma or nanis are working at the kitchen the rest of the
family goes around the table and play Loteria. Every body gets a board with
20 colorful characters while someone that’s is the chanter is going to pas the cards
from a deck that contains all the figures. The chanter has to be creative when
chanting and he will never say the name of the figure coming but a reference
related with the character so , instead of the Devil he would chant “ the
one that gives and takes away”, or “… how water
rises to the coconut” instead of the Palm Tree. These collection of
images portrait all these characters that are populary known in Mexico. Similar
table games exist in Cuba, Argentina, Peru and other countries.
Cameo Collection
This
collection portrays historical characters performing important moments
in their lives or simply posing in a emblematic way like they are
posing for a photographer that wants to immortalizes their beauty.
All the characters in this collection are framed by laces, flowers
o floral decorative designs with the shape of a cameo. Sometimes
these decorative elements are an important reference to the content
of the storie portaited or just related with the style that the pictures
could adopt. For instance, in the case of the “Deco Cameo” the
cameo is shaped with a deco stile.
Candy Cane Collection
I believe that as an artist that grew in Mexico, there is tons of
stories printed in full color in my mind and soul that permeate my artistic
production, therefore I am a figurative. Nevertheless the Candy cane collection
emerged from my taste for the simple shape and color and texture that are the
language of painting in the abstract style. So this even is very figurative,
is my abstract collection. It can goes colorful and happy or mysterious or
sad or sofistcated…
De profundis collection
This collection shows some of the images of the Virgin of Guadalupe
I painted in the past. I am always planning or painting a new Virgin of Guadalupe.
Sometimes I explore new ways of represent her or trying to go as efectist as
necessary to copy the beauty of the original image that is antique, mystical
and powerful.
